Q: My neighbor built an addition onto his home, complete with new lighting and electrical outlets; he did not get an electrical permit. I plan to renovate my home; do I need an electrical permit?
A: It depends; if you simply replace your lighting fixtures, switches and/or receptacles with like kind, the answer is no. However, if you ADD as few as one lighting fixture, switch and/or receptacle, the answer is yes. If you do not, your home insurance may become invalid.
